Recently I took on a rather large renovation project. Essentially doubling the size of a kitchen. It used to be half the size, with a den where the new portion where the fridge and table island is. Along with making the kitchen bigger also needed to bring it up to date. It had good bones, cabinetry, finishes, but colors were dated, flooring was dated, and my interest was dated. We changed all the slate tile to a grey birch floor on the entire main floor, all woodwork was updated to an architectural white, new kitchen layout, wall colors were updates to a soft neutral as well. Backsplash is now a subway in a brick lay, with a Mediterranean style insert above the stove, and a few glass cabinets to soften the space and add some dimension. The idea was to take the older charm of the home and update it, bringing an element of traditional mixed with modern. A lot of fun seeing it come together. Check out the before and after.
